Governor Snyder Supports Water Infrastructure Updates

Governor Rick Snyder showed his support for Rep. Larry Inman’s proposal to invest $110 million to help rebuild Michigan’s water infrastructure. Critical repairs to the water and sewer systems state-wide will ensure citizens have access to safe drinking water, as well as protect our natural resources. A recent poll suggests strong support for legislative action relating to these issues.
Inman’s proposal creates a process to distribute fees to residential and business accounts based on the size of their water meter. The MDEQ and the Water Asset Management Council will develop the fee schedule. The size of the properties’ water meter will determine the amount of water that can be supplied to that property. Supporters of the proposal feel the plan will create a process that accurately reflects a fee based on usage. The bill limit for residential properties and business accounts will be $20 and $400 per year respectively.
This proposal is an important step to not only protect our natural resources, but also to ensure access to safe drinking water.
