Drones Are Taking Over Human Insurance Inspection

While drones are becoming increasingly popular for recreational use, they are also entering the market in a more practical fashion – insurance evaluations. The long, irritating process involving home or car insurance claims is being accelerated by the use of drones. Traditionally, an insurance claim begins with the customer contacting the insurance company, waiting for a representative to inspect the damage, and within what could span several weeks, receive their reimbursement.
With the advancement of drone technology, many home and car insurance companies no longer use employees to conduct damage assessments. Companies are able to transform a process that previously lasted weeks into a process that lasts a few days or hours. Drones are sent to the location of the damage and can inspect the damage, issue a monetary decision, and send it to the customer all within a few hours.
Of course, there are still some drawbacks to be worked out. Many insured still claim that the pictures the drones take are not accurate enough. They would prefer to have a trained employee evaluate the situation, even at the extra cost. Some also argue that it’s an invasion of privacy to have a bunch of drones flying over homes and taking pictures all the time.
While the situation has its positives and negatives, there is no denying that the process is on the edge of big technological advances going forward.
