Wendy Alton is a trial lawyer and certified Mediator for divorce and custody.  She has practiced in Michigan courts for more than 9 years, and presently focuses her practice in areas of family law, including divorce, probate, estate planning and litigation.  She is also an Assistant City Attorney for the City of Westland, and handles misdemeanor prosecution, including pre-trials, hearings, bench and jury trials.

 

Wendy earned a BA in English at the University of Michigan-Dearborn, completing her degree with dual minors in both History and Physics.  She remains active in alumni service to the University as a member of the Board of Governors for the College of Arts, Sciences & Letters Alumni Affiliate, and participates in fund-raising for the CASL Alumni Affiliate scholarship fund.

 

After completion of her undergraduate studies, Wendy earned her law degree at Wayne State University Law School in 2002, where she was the recipient of the Raymond L. Krell Scholarship and the Law Scholarship for the State Bar Negligence Council.  Wendy is licensed to practice in Michigan courts, as well as the United States District Court for the Eastern and Western Districts of Michigan.  She has also practiced in front of the Michigan Court of Appeals and has written appeal briefs for the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals.

 

In 2009, Wendy became certified as a Divorce and Custody Mediator after rigorous training at the Mediation Training & Consultation Institute.  She also completed her Domestic Violence Screening Protocol Training in 2009. 

 

Wendy remains dedicated to educating the public and her clients about issues in family law with her family law blog.  She has been published as guest columnist in the Northville Record and the Northville Patch.  She has also been interviewed about family law issues by the Detroit News.  Wendy strives to provide both professional and compassionate representation, and realizes the importance of educating her clients so that they can make informed decisions that are based upon what is best for their own families.
